Environmental and Climate Change Program Strategy, Planning and Development

Active and Most Recent Projects (Within 5 Years)

  • Love Environment was retained late in the fall of 2015 to assist a Canadian CEO/confidential client in understanding the potential implications of evolving EPR programs and legislation across Canada and in the US on the organization's current and future activities.
  • Love Environment – in partnership with Sustainable Pathways – conducted a detailed analysis of Industry Stewardship Plans (ISPs) and Procedures for Waste Diversion Ontario’s senior management and Board. The report and recommendations were submitted to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment in June 2102 and WDO proceeded to implement a new set of procedures for ISPs during 2013.
  • Served as a sub-contractor (along with Marbek Resource consultants) to Kelleher Environmental on a project for the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) to develop a three year strategy for OPA's $5 million/year Conservation Fund. The project included developing long and annotated short lists of priority conservation investment opportunities for which OPA could solicit requests for proposals to advance conservation activities in Ontario's residential, commercial, institutional and industrial sectors.
  • Love Environment supported the Preparation of a Strategic Oversight Plan for the new CEO of Waste Diversion Ontario. The main focus of the report was to conduct an analysis and prepare an action plan (for Board approval) for waste diversion program monitoring/ oversight of Ontario’s Industry Funding Organizations (IFOs) and to help guide WDO’s renewed stakeholder engagement program.
  • In association with Kelleher Environmental, completed a waste wood sourcing study for a GTA area biomass energy plant. The facility is the first FIT approved biomass project in southern Ontario and - once operational - will represent both a significant new waste diversion opportunity for waste wood in Southern Ontario in addition to being a new, state of the art green energy installation for the province.

  • Prepared – for senior management and Board approval - a detailed, short-term Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan and a long-term Environmental Strategy for BC Ferries, a $750 million/year BC–based company.
  • Project Manager for a 3 year “Youth Eco-Parliament“ project. Students across Canada developed local environmental action projects. Also involved exchanges with leading European school programs organized by Pro-Europe. The project was funded by five public and not-for-profit private sector organizations from five Canadian provinces. (Please see “Reference Projects” for more detailed description).
  • Project Director for Enviros RIS' two year involvement in the Energy Council of Canada and the Climate Change Action Fund's national Action By Canadians program. This was an award winning Climate Change Training and Outreach Program targeting employees and engaged over 5000 people working primarily in the Canadian energy sector.   • Project Manager for the preparation of a GHG emissions inventory and forecast for Ontario Government operations, and for a study to identify potential energy efficiency measures and a continuous improvement strategy for reducing GHG emissions from government operations.
  • Project Director for a report prepared for Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing used by the provincial government to assess greenhouse gas reduction options. Responsible for researching and developing case studies to profile municipal initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout North America.
  • Project Director for CSR: Corporations Supporting Recycling providing national-level, multi-year market development and technical support to the corporation. Provided technical and strategic advice to CSR’s Board and multi-stakeholder committees for over 20 years in support of brand-owners producer responsibility initiatives across Canada.
  • Project Manager of a study for the federal Public Education and Outreach (PEO) Table to evaluate home energy and environmental programs and provide recommendations for future program support.
  • Collaborator in the development of an Ontario Transportation Sector GHG Reduction Strategy and Program for Transport Canada (one member of a national project team).
  • Project Director for a report prepared for Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing used by the provincial government to assess greenhouse gas reduction options. Responsible for researching and developing case studies to profile municipal initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout North America.
  • Oversaw the development of the internal Green Procurement strategy for Stewardship Ontario and the development (in collaboration with Robins Environmental) of best practice procurement protocols for the adoption of Stewardship Ontario member companies.
