Canadian Youth Climate Action Award (CYCAA) 

Our younger population is the most impacted by climate change and is also actively engaged in mitigating its impact. Across Canada, youth are organizing, influencing policymakers and corporations, and creating essential programs in their communities. The number and quality of projects that applied for the award through our first two years far exceeded our expectations. We awarded $15,000 to 14 different youth-led projects. 

The award applicants and recipients vary geographically and by activity. Several projects, particularly in our second year, sought to reduce “climate anxiety” through their work. Our two first-place prize winners (now a $5000 award) exemplify the types of initiatives we are so pleased to support. We are building on our initial success and want you to join us in this impactful work. More information on these projects and our other award winners may be found on our website. 

This year, we will reach more groups, attract more applications, and reward more money for even more projects. We know there are plenty of great initiatives out there to be identified, celebrated, and amplified for the benefit of the wider community. As you can see in this video, our recipients deeply appreciated the recognition of their work.

We are looking for progressive environmental individuals, charities and companies to support the next phase of our award program and, therefore, seek $25,000 per year in charitable funding over the next two years. We have two levels of corporate support: $5,000/year Deep Green supporter; $2,500/year Friend of CYCAA supporter plus individuals can donate directly to the Canadian Youth Climate Action Award located on the Small Change website. Business supporters will be promoted on social media, able to prominently display the Canadian Youth Climate Action award logo on their websites, and are invited to participate in the award process. All donations receive a charitable donation receipt from Small Change Fund.

Climate change is the challenge of our time.
